ESNM vNews | PET/CT in Oncology

ESNM Advanced Learning Course on PET/CT in Oncology

This course will be held from May 21 until May 23, 2015 at the ESNM Office in Vienna, providing education on advanced technical aspects and protocols, advanced use of FDG PET/CT and clinical use of radiopharmaceuticals beyond FDG. Moreover, lectures on new investigational radiopharmaceuticals (FMISO, FLT, RGD) are presented in the advanced course.
The course is given during one and a half working day and Saturday morning, leaving more room for Vienna sightseeing, or for an earlier trip back home.
During the first day of the course, advanced acquisition protocols (e.g. quantification, use of contrast agents, dynamic acquisition and respiratory gating) are discussed, as well as the use of PET/CT in radiation treatment planning and dosimetry.
The second day concentrates on advanced use of FDG in response monitoring and a number of more recent indications (e.g. mesothelioma, urogenital tumors, sarcomas, liver tumors and paediatric applications), as well as on other radiopharmaceuticals, used for bone, brain, prostate and neuroendocrine tumors.
The third day of the course focuses on novel tracers under development to study tumor characteristics, such as proliferation, angiogenesis and hypoxia and on the use of PET in translational research.
The educational objective of this course is to increase the level of knowledge on the advanced use of PET/CT.
The course creators took particular care to ensure a good balance of frontal teaching and case report sessions during which the participants can go through prepared series of clinical cases by using state of the art workstations.

In addition, interaction among instructors and attendees is guaranteed thanks to practical questions and open discussions.
The target group of this course consists of physicians (nuclear medicine, radiology, radiation oncology, oncologists, industry, etc.) who work in the field of oncology with advanced multimodal cancer imaging being part of their daily routine. It is highly suggested to attend the basic Course either physically or online beforehand.
